UAVs will help solve one of the main problems of ecology
Planting trees in remote areas is a painstaking and slow process. It is not always possible to send workers from the far end of the world with shovels that will plant thousands of seedlings. The company DroneSeed proposed a truly revolutionary method of forest restoration using flying drones.
The fact that the forests are the lungs of the planet is well known. They absorb up to 30% of the annual amount of CO 2 emissions . Using the example of the US state of Washington, where about 7 million hectares are managed by timber companies, the standards require planting 190 trees per acre for three years after cutting. Otherwise, forests will take from 100 to 300 years to recover naturally .
The technology of planting seeds is as follows. Initially, drones based on GPS data and previously compiled 3D terrain maps treat the sown surface with herbicides in order to clear it of weeds. For this, 11-liter containers are used. In this case, the error in spraying is not more than 2 cm.
Further, the seeds loaded into the drone are ejected using compressed air at a speed of 384 km / h. In total, up to 800 seeds can be planted in an hour. For comparison, to plant such a number of trees, a leshoz worker will need a day.
Currently, DroneSeed is authorized to use herbicides, after which the first tests will begin in the coming months .
