Cybathlon Cyborg International Cybathlon competitions will be held in October
October 8 in Zurich will be an unusual international competition – Cybathlon-2016, which is also called the Olympic Games for cyborgs. The founder of the competition is the Swiss National Center for Robotics Research. The main goal is to attract the attention of the world’s leading experts in the field of robotics to developing devices that help people with disabilities.
The idea of the competition belongs to the professor of the University of Zurich Robert Raner, who himself has been using a prosthetic hand for many years.
“Somehow standing in line at the cinema,” he recalls, “I tried to take my wallet with a prosthetic hand, but I could not do it quickly. I was very embarrassed that my artificial hand made a lot of noise. I realized that without modern technology, this can not be done. “
50 teams from all over the world will take part in the competition. According to the organizers of Cybathlon-2016, the best world orthopedic technologies will be represented at the games.
One of the most interesting areas is the brain-computer interface, which recognizes the activity of the brain through special electrodes. Participants of “Kibatlon” will be offered to compete in virtual races using this particular method of control.
The Cybathlon-2016 site presents a program of games. Participants will face off in cycling with the use of bionic stimulation, in wheelchair races, races on leg prostheses, competitions of people with hand prostheses , competitions of participants connected to the neurocomputer interface and in runs in exoskeletons .
